FANTASY BASEBALL

This unit crosses over with our Math department. Students pair up and have to choose from baseball cards one player from each position. What they need to focus on is choosing from each player what year they are going to use them for based on the player's statistics. For example one player may have alot of homeruns, but also strikeouts quite a bit, so they may be better off choosing a player with a better batting average that will get them on base more often. After doing the statistics portion in math, they use Microsoft Excel to design pie graphs using their player's stats. Then from the company you can order spinners that go over the graphs to simulate when a player bats and student learn to keep a baseball scorebook and have a simulated tournament. The pictures below will show you how the game works...

Students pick a player for each position

and use their stats from any year they choose.

Then they input the stats for that year into Microsoft Excel.

Using Excel they generate a pie graph for each player.

Using the spinners they simulate an at bat for that player.

Their are special baserunning rules for when a player flyouts, groundouts, etc..

When one team is at bat, the other team keeps score.

Here is one period's bracket leading up to our World Series.

Below are pictures of some teams playing their opening day games...
